Michael Tripodi and Darren Chester before the fun run

If you were wondering how my little pledge regarding Michael Tripodi and Darren Chester went, I just handed $294 over to Traralgon Harriers for Gippsland Rotary Centenary House.

Running to help the families of sick loved ones

Local MP Darren Chester with Traralgon Harriers' Phil Mayer.

A few extra dollars will go towards Gippsland Rotary Centenary House this Sunday, but the actual amount depends on how well two runners do in the DFP Recruitment Community Fun Run and Walk.

The Member for Gippsland, Darren Chester, is taking part and at Voyage Media we're keen to see how well he does against last year's winner Michael Tripodi.

We'll give $2 to Centenary House for every place Michael finishes ahead of Darren.

Yinnar South's fire message

One of Tammy's breast cancer messages
Two years ago I went out to Tammy Pettigrew's farm at Yinnar South to talk to her about her rather creative approach to spreading breast cancer awareness.  People driving past her property could clearly see a number of unambiguous messages placed on pink covered hay bales.

Lightning started a fire close to Tammy's property at Yinnar South last weekend, that is now almost contained at around 1930 hectares in size but not yet controlled.  CFA and other firefighters have put in a huge effort to battle this blaze, much of it in steep, difficult terrain.

By Greg Allen-Pretty

As fire crews continue to work on the Bunyip State Park bushfire, residents and property owners are taking stock and picking up the pieces.

True to the Aussie spirit of helping out a mate in need, two Warragul businesses have helped facilitate the receiving and distribution of donations of emergency relief items.

MG Trading and Horseland have been helping to meet the immediate needs of land and animal owners from Pakenham to Labertouche, with many items provided by customers, suppliers, pony & adult riders clubs, and the general public.

Gippsland's Currie set for his biggest year yet in British road racing

By Greg Allen-Pretty

One of Gippsland's most exciting international sportsmen is about to embark on his biggest season of road racing yet.

23 year old Benjamin Currie from Glengarry will return to the UK for training this week after stepping-up to the elite-level Bennetts British Superbike Championship.  BJ has inked a deal with Bournemouth Kawasaki to compete in Britain's premier superbike racing series.

It's a natural progression for the high achieving young rider who, in the British Supersport Championship last year, amassed seven victories along with 11 podium finishes.  Currie ended the season as runner-up in the series.
